Dr Maria Montessori opened her first classroom, the Casa dei Bambini, or Children's House, in a tenement building in Rome in 1907. In the century that followed Montessori's ideas spread across the world and influenced many dimensions of modern thinking in education.

Now, in the 21st century, there is a large and growing demand for progressive education in China. However, what does Montessori inspired education really look like and how does it fit within the context of modern China?
